In 2005, Tom Ulichny graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. After his first two years of intensive guitar study at Berklee, he took a drum course as an elective with Dave DiCenso, which confirmed his long standing interest in percussion, and quickly inspired him to switch his principle instrument to drum set. Under the tutelage of master drummers Jerry Leake and Jamey Haddad he developed a fascination with world drums, specifically the tabla, a traditional Indian percussion instrument. A year before graduating, Ulichny took a semester off to travel to Pune, India, studying tabla and Indian rhythmic systems under the great Rajeev Devasthali. Ulichny’s experience in India provided the basis for his signature sound: densely layered songs that pull from both Indian classical traditions and contemporary rock.

Shortly thereafter, Ulichny spent a year as an adjunct professor for the St. John School of the Arts in the U.S. Virgin Islands, teaching private lessons and conducting seminars in world percussion rhythms and concepts, focusing primarily on the tabla, kanjira, clay and frame drums. He briefly toured Ireland and France before moving back to the mid-Atlantic in 2007.

As Director of Music Education for Fell's Point Music in Baltimore, Maryland, Ulichny developed curriculum for an African drumming program at Living Classrooms, a charter school for inner-city youth. In addition to leading The Rhythm Masters performance group, he established Ulichny Music LLC. While continually studying, teaching, and performing with dozens of artists and bands in the area, Ulichny developed his unique performance style by taking his rock and folk guitar roots and world percussion interests and incorporating live loop sampling to blend those sounds.

Tom Ulichny now resides in Columbus, Ohio where he is continuing to offer private instruction for hand percussion, guitar, and drum set, and is in full swing launching his solo career. His diverse musical interests have come together to produce an intricate but accessible sound that warrants attention with its haunting honesty.
